After watching Blue Valentine, I was actually really curious about the procedure and how it would feel (seeing as that is the choice I’ve made if I do become pregnant before I feel financially stable and mature enough to care for a child). The scene in the movie (ok let’s be honest the whole movie) made me emotional and I got a little freaked out about pregnancy again because it is one of my biggest fears.

This is an insightful video, and definitely made me feel a little better, both about my choice and the anxiety of the procedure itself. I watched the follow-up video to this one as well, and I do believe she made the right choice for her and that she’s doing well with no regrets.

(note: pro-choice ≠ pro-abortion. Everyone should be able to decide what they would do in the situation of a pregnancy. If you would never have an abortion that’s cool, if you want to adopt that’s cool too, but please don’t send me messages about my choice in a hypothetical situation).

PS blue valentine is my all time favorite movie!!

Within the past few days Amnesty International has initiated a petition asking for life-saving medical care, including an abortion; the United Nations has spoken; and the Salvadoran Minister of Health, Dr. Maria Isabel Rodriguez, has requested that the Supreme Court approve the request. Dr. Rodriguez emphasized that Beatriz’s kidney function continues to deteriorateas the pregnancy advances, and that the public health system is ready to perform an abortion. The Salvadoran Attorney General for Human Rights also supports the request.

Beatriz’s life is threatened by her health conditions and a high-risk pregnancy. However, the deeper threats come from an intractable and misogynistic political and religious system which criminalizes women for being young, poor, rural women.  Right now the eyes and voices of  the world constitute Beatriz’ hope for life. She wants to live.

Its okay to think you killed your baby

Its okay to feel like you have a second chance at life

Its okay to feel empowered

It okay to feel grief

Its okay to think you made the best choice

Its okay to think you made the worst choice

Its okay to be neutral

Its okay to cry

Its okay to laugh

Id always wanted to be a mommy. Always. I have four younger siblings, the youngest is now 6, I loved growing up with babies in my house. When I found out that I was pregnant I was horrified that id let that dream become a nightmare. I knew the whole time an abortion would devastate me, but for the…

You know, I’m pro having the choice to keep your baby, or to abort it. I’m pro my children, my children’s children, and other people like me not being ashamed if they have a baby young because they chose not to abort it. I’m pro society accepting people for the choices they make, because we have the freedom to do that. When the doctors offered to let me abort my son later than was legally allowed, I said no, and while I had the choice they judged me harshly for it. And I want the freedom not to be judged, and to be accepted for the choice I made. But I can’t have that freedom if others don’t have the same freedom. Abortion isn’t my choice, but it is a choice, and in order for me to have a choice those who want to abort need one too.
